The AAD Performing Arts Troupe

We're proud to have established the first performing arts group for the disabled in Siem Reap.

A dedicated troupe of players gives regular performances of a specially written piece, Life Is Suffering, Life Is Hope, both at the house and at venues in town. We like to think it's worth a trip to Siem Reap to see the show, but the next best thing is to enjoy the DVD.

Full of color, movement and music, the show is a moving portrayal of overcoming incredible odds to lead a full and happy life. And if you've never seen traditional Khmer Apsara dancing by girls who are severely disabled, you're in for a very emotional and joyous experience.

The AAD Musician's Collective
Our traditional Khmer master musicians - all disabled or blind - get up at six for the daily practise session, then perform every day, all day, at the nearby Bantrey Kdai temple. It's not an easy gig. It's hot and dusty, and some days they return with nothing - every single tourist has passed them by.

For a group of talented and dedicated musicians, this could be a little dispiriting, but their pride and sheer enjoyment in what they do keeps their spirits high.

Enjoy their exotic, rhythmic sounds by purchasing their CD from this site!
